ACCIPITRIFORMES: Accipitridae
Circus assimilis
Amy (my daughter) and I were out camping for the weekend and passing through Ouyen on the way to Hattah-Kulkine National Park.
It was Sunday morning and we were filling in twenty minutes until the cafe opened for breakfast.
I filled in the twenty minutes wandering around some scrub at the north-west corner of town and Amy, who graciously tolerates and even assists her father's ornithological habits when she can, spent them snoozing in the car.
This Spotted Harrier was an unexpected bonus from a spot I thought might turn up a few honeyeaters and perhaps babblers.
